Gary Shields Dining Room Chairs
Gary Shields is a sweet guy living in Kanab, Utah. He had an amazing dining room table set with 6 chairs that were hand carved from the 40's! They were beautiful. However, the seats really needed an updating. We picked a great southwestern theme fabric to fit the style and color scheme of his home, but is very comfortable to sit on.
The old cushions and fabric were in pretty bad shape. Stained, and the velvet was practically rubbed off! When I took the chair apart, the cushion was so worn it was DUST! I replaced the cushions and upholstered the seat.
Now these chairs look amazing again!
Total cost was $225.00 for 6 Dining room chairs.

Mesa Temple Chairs
These chairs I was lucky enough to get from my nemaw in law, who used to work in the mesa temple. When they redecorated the cafeteria, they gave the old chairs away. I got 4 of them, and plan to do them all differently. This is Chair #1.
Hope to be posting the rest of the chairs soon!

Gloria Allen's Chairs
{Upholstery & refinishing}
These chairs were such a great experience. I have done quite a few reapholstering projects, but this was my first big project refinishing wood. I learned a LOT. Before the renovation, this is what the chairs looked like:
This set of chairs was interesting: Gloria said she had bought them (a set of 4) from an antique store many years ago, and although they looked VERY similar, they might not have been intended as a set. As you can see the chair on the right has a slightly different design, and a darker stain. I wanted to make all the chairs look more like a set, so I chose a darker stain in order to balance the darker wood and the lighter wood.
I kept in the same color palette to match the other decorations in her kitchen. All together, I refinished the wood tightened the chairs, added padding for the cushions, used a modern stripe fabric, and covered it with a clear vinyl at the owners request to protect them from stains....these will be functional dining room chairs after all!
Before/After
These were so fun to do. I can't wait to start my next chair project and experiment with painting and distressing wood.

Tanglewood Books
Before

After
{Logo & Couch}
This couch was my first big project. The owner wanted something new and exciting, and one that coincides with the out of the box feeling of her amazing book store, and colors. She told me nothing else about what she wanted, and just told me to "be creative." So, I decided to do three different fabrics, all on different parts of the couch. Not only did this allow me to use a broader color pallet, and provide a unique look, it is also a great way to save money on VERY expensive upholstery fabric!

This project was a lot of fun. I love the jobs that give me creative license. I also was the graphic designer for Tanglewood books. I created their logo, and made them some bookmarks for their business cards! So clever!
I am currently going to school for graphic design and it is another one of my passions.
For her logo, She had talked about a tree, and knew what she wanted her colors to be. In this design I tried to incorporate the hands at the top of the tree to mimic those holding and reading a book, and the hands stretching out as the roots looking for more good reads. After a few meetings and sketches, she decided she wanted a very organic design, and fun fonts.
If you are ever in Kanab, Utah, check out Tanglewood books to see the couch in person, and relax while you read a book!
