Gloria Allen's Chairs
{Upholstery & refinishing}
These chairs were such a great experience. I have done quite a few reapholstering projects, but this was my first big project refinishing wood. I learned a LOT. Before the renovation, this is what the chairs looked like:
This set of chairs was interesting: Gloria said she had bought them (a set of 4) from an antique store many years ago, and although they looked VERY similar, they might not have been intended as a set. As you can see the chair on the right has a slightly different design, and a darker stain. I wanted to make all the chairs look more like a set, so I chose a darker stain in order to balance the darker wood and the lighter wood.
I kept in the same color palette to match the other decorations in her kitchen. All together, I refinished the wood tightened the chairs, added padding for the cushions, used a modern stripe fabric, and covered it with a clear vinyl at the owners request to protect them from stains....these will be functional dining room chairs after all!
Before/After
These were so fun to do. I can't wait to start my next chair project and experiment with painting and distressing wood.
